Sandy grew fast. The city went from about 6,400 people in 1970 to around 75,000 by 1990, and a lot of homes went up in those twenty years. That means a lot of roofs around here are the same age, and plenty of them are on their second or third set of shingles by now.
We repair and replace roofs all over Sandy, from Historic Sandy and the Crescent area to Willow Creek, Pepperwood, and Alta View. Homes on the east side, up toward Bell Canyon and the mouth of Little Cottonwood, get more snow and weather than the valley floor, and we build for that. Roofing Utah is women-owned, licensed and insured, and we’ll walk you through a hail or wind claim if you need one.
A lot of Sandy was built in the 70s and 80s as small subdivisions, so you’ll often see a whole street hit the end of its roofs at once. Newer infill and the custom homes on the east bench bring steeper pitches and trickier rooflines. We handle both, including:
Sandy starts at about 4,450 feet and climbs toward the Wasatch on its east side. Storms drop more moisture against the mountains, so homes up on the east bench get more snow, a longer freeze-thaw season, and more ice at the eaves than homes down near State Street. Summer has its own problem. On June 18, 2018, the National Weather Service listed Sandy among the hardest-hit areas when a storm dropped quarter- to half-dollar hail across the south end of the valley.
Then there’s Dimple Dell. The regional park runs right through the middle of Sandy neighborhoods, and the city’s fire officials have been open about how big a grass fire there could get. If your home backs onto Dimple Dell or the foothills, we’ll pay extra attention to your vents and eaves and make sure the valleys and gutters stay clear.
In Sandy, roof replacements go through the city’s Building & Safety Division. We check what your job needs and pull the permit when it’s required. If you’re in Pepperwood or one of the newer subdivisions, your HOA probably has rules on roof color and material too. We’ll look those up before you pick a shingle, not after it’s already on.
We also work in the cities around Sandy:
At that age, replacing it is usually the smarter money, but not always. We’ll get up there, take photos, and be honest with you if a repair would hold for a few more years.
It often does. If the hail was big enough to dent your gutters and vents, it may have bruised the shingles too. We’ll document what we find and meet your adjuster so the claim matches what’s really on the roof.
We can. We’ll check your HOA’s color and material rules before you choose anything, and help with the approval paperwork if they want to sign off first.
We do, and those homes need a bit more planning. They get more snow and ice than the valley floor, so we make sure there’s ice-and-water protection at the eaves and enough attic ventilation.
