A roof that doesn't cook your house
A standard dark roof soaks up the summer sun and dumps that heat straight into your attic, which makes your air conditioner work overtime. Energy-efficient shingles are built to reflect more of that sunlight instead of absorbing it, so less heat gets into the house in the first place.
In a place like Utah, where summer sun at altitude is no joke, that reflectivity can mean a cooler upstairs, a less-stressed AC, and lower bills, all from a roof that looks just like a normal one.
How they help
What energy-efficient shingles actually do
It’s not marketing fluff. Here’s the real mechanism, and the honest limits.
They reflect more sunlight
Cool-roof shingles use reflective granules to bounce back a bigger share of the sun’s energy, so your roof surface and attic run cooler on hot days.
They ease the load on your AC
When less heat gets into the attic, your air conditioner cycles less to keep up. Over a long Utah summer, that adds up on your utility bill.
They can extend roof life
Heat is one of the things that ages a roof. A cooler-running roof deck can help the whole system hold up a little better over time.
They look like normal shingles
You don’t trade curb appeal for efficiency. These come in the same range of colors and styles as standard architectural shingles.

Why homeowners choose us
Straight answers to the worries we hear most
Maybe you’ve been burned before, or you’re worried you will be. Here’s what makes us different.
“My roofer took the deposit and disappeared.”
We hear this one a lot, and it’s part of why Jen started Roofing Utah. We treat every job as a real commitment to your home. That means showing up when we say we will and finishing what we start. And if something needs attention down the road, we’re still here to take the call.
“The leak came back a week later.”
If a repair doesn’t hold, it wasn’t really a repair. So we look for what’s actually causing the leak instead of just covering the spot that’s easiest to reach. We use the right materials and install them properly, so the next rainstorm isn’t a reason to worry.
“I can't tell if I need a repair or a replacement.”
This is one of the most common spots to be stuck in, and it’s where a lot of homeowners get pushed toward the priciest option. We’ll give you an honest read instead. Sometimes a repair is all you need. Other times, replacing the roof is the smarter call over the long run. We’ll tell you which one it is and why.
“Storm chasers keep showing up at my door.”
After a big storm, out-of-town crews show up uninvited, promise a great deal, and ask for money upfront. Some of them you never see again. We’re a local company based in Roy, working across Ogden, Davis County, and the Salt Lake Valley. We were here before the storm and we’ll be here after it, which matters when you need someone to stand behind the work.
“I have no idea if my insurance will cover this.”
Insurance claims are confusing, and most roofers leave you to sort it out on your own. We don’t. We’ll help you document the damage, figure out what your policy actually covers, and handle the paperwork the insurer wants. Whether it was hail, wind, or one of those classic Wasatch Front storms, having someone who knows the claims process makes a real difference.

FAQs
Questions Utah homeowners ask us
Clear answers, no runaround.
Do energy-efficient shingles really lower my bills?
They can, especially on the cooling side during Utah summers. Savings depend on your home, insulation, and attic ventilation, so think of the roof as one piece of a bigger efficiency picture.
Do they cost more than regular shingles?
Usually a modest amount more up front. Whether that pays back depends on your energy use and how long you’ll stay in the home. We’ll give you the honest math.
Will an energy-efficient roof look different?
No. Cool-roof shingles come in the same styles and colors as standard architectural shingles, so your home won’t look any different.
Does attic ventilation matter too?
A lot. Reflective shingles and good attic ventilation work together. If your attic can’t breathe, you won’t get the full benefit, so we look at the whole system.
Are they worth it in Utah specifically?
Our high-altitude sun is intense, so reflectivity earns its keep here more than in a cloudier climate. For a lot of Utah homes, they’re worth a serious look.

Jen Silver
Jen Silver founded Roofing Utah in 2019. By then she’d already spent years in the Utah roofing business, starting out on the phones in inside sales and working her way up to general manager of a local roofing company, where she nearly doubled its annual sales in under two years.
She built Roofing Utah to be a contractor homeowners could count on from the first call to the final walkthrough. Today it’s one of the fastest-growing roofing companies in Utah, and Jen is a founding member of Women-Owned Businesses of Northern Utah.
