Brigham City’s historic district was added to the National Register in 2023, and it’s one of the largest in Utah. It covers more than a thousand historic buildings from 1855 to 1974: pioneer hall-parlor homes, Victorian cross-wings, bungalows, and post-war houses from the Bushnell Hospital and Thiokol years. A lot of the roofs on those homes are older than they look.
We repair and replace roofs all over Brigham City, from the historic blocks around Main Street to the East Bench and the newer subdivisions at the edges of town. We also serve Perry, Willard, and the rest of Box Elder County. Roofing Utah is women-owned, licensed and insured, and we’re just down the road in Roy.
The original half-acre lots in Brigham City were split up over the years, so you’ll find a pioneer home next to a 1920s bungalow next to a 1950s ranch, all on one street. Each needs its own approach to decking, pitch, and materials. We handle:
Brigham City sits at the foot of the Wellsville Mountains, at the mouth of Box Elder Canyon, a little over 4,300 feet up. It averages about 38 inches of snow a year. That’s enough freeze-thaw to build ice along the eaves of older homes that don’t have much insulation. Wind is the bigger worry, though. In 2019, gusts up to 66 mph near Brigham City pulled trees out by the roots, and the September 2020 windstorm ripped siding off homes and dropped trees on houses in nearby Willard and South Willard.
On historic homes we look closely at the decking, since older houses often have plank boards. We also check the chimney and wall flashing, and the spots where a later addition meets the original roof. On these homes, that’s where the leaks usually start.
Building permits in Brigham City go through the city’s Building Permits & Inspections office. If you’re outside city limits, it’s Box Elder County. We’ll confirm what your reroof needs and handle the permit. Brigham City also has a Historical Preservation Commission, so if your home is in the historic district, we’ll check whether the commission needs to weigh in. We’ll also suggest materials that respect the home’s original look.
We also serve these Box Elder and Weber County communities:
We do, and we expect plank decking, old layers, and tricky flashing when we do. We’ll suggest materials that suit the house, and if it’s in the historic district, we’ll check whether the Historical Preservation Commission needs to weigh in.
Not far at all. We’re based in Roy, a short drive south, so Brigham City is part of our regular service area.
If you can do it safely, take some photos, then give us a call. We can tarp any openings, inspect the whole roof, and help you with the insurance claim.
Permits go through Brigham City’s Building Permits & Inspections office. We’ll confirm what your project needs and take care of the permit for you.
