Flat roofs aren't really flat, and that's the point
A “flat” roof still has a slight slope to move water toward the drains, and getting that right is where a lot of flat roofs fail. Standing water is the enemy: it finds every seam and weak spot. On a low-slope roof, the membrane and the seams do the work that shingles do on a pitched roof, so the material and the installation have to be spot on.
We install modern flat-roof systems like TPO that are built for exactly this: durable, seam-welded, and reflective enough to take Utah’s summer sun. Done right, a flat roof is low-maintenance and long-lasting.

TPO membrane
A single-ply, heat-welded membrane that’s become the go-to for flat roofs. It’s reflective, resists UV, and the welded seams hold up far better than older glued systems.
Proper slope and drainage
Most flat-roof problems come down to water sitting where it shouldn’t. We make sure the slope and drains actually move water off the roof instead of letting it pond.
Flashing and detail work
Every curb, vent, and edge on a flat roof is a potential leak point. The detail work around them is where a flat roof is won or lost, and it’s what we obsess over.
Additions and modern homes
Low-slope sections on additions, garages, and modern flat-profile homes need a real flat-roof system, not shingles stretched onto a slope they weren’t made for.

How long does a flat roof last in Utah?
A quality TPO flat roof typically lasts 20-30 years. Ponding water and poor installation are what cut that short, which is why the install matters so much.
Why does my flat roof keep leaking?
Almost always standing water, a failed seam, or bad flashing around a vent or curb. We find the actual source instead of coating over it and hoping.
Is TPO better than an old tar-and-gravel roof?
For most homes, yes. TPO is lighter, reflective, and its welded seams outlast the built-up and glued systems it replaced.
Can you put a flat roof over my existing one?
Sometimes, but not always, and often it’s not the right call. We’ll tell you honestly whether a recover is fine or whether a tear-off is the smarter long-term move.
Do flat roofs need more maintenance?
A little. Keeping drains clear and getting the occasional check keeps small issues from becoming leaks. It’s simple, and we can handle it.

Jen Silver
Jen Silver founded Roofing Utah in 2019. By then she’d already spent years in the Utah roofing business, starting out on the phones in inside sales and working her way up to general manager of a local roofing company, where she nearly doubled its annual sales in under two years.
She built Roofing Utah to be a contractor homeowners could count on from the first call to the final walkthrough. Today it’s one of the fastest-growing roofing companies in Utah, and Jen is a founding member of Women-Owned Businesses of Northern Utah.
